The Lost Summer Project

Under normal circumstances, summer internships are an essential accelerant for Information Security students preparing to enter the workforce. Unfortunately, many such students in Ireland had their plans disrupted when the COVID-19 pandemic caused many companies in Ireland to cancel their internship programs. Owen O'Connor, my colleague at Salesforce, organised The Lost Summer Project as a way of giving those students an alternative opportunity to learn from seasoned professionals in the security industry. I share Owen's passion for helping to grow the security profession by helping people enter and grow in the field, so I was delighted when he asked me to contribute.

AWS Loft Security Week

Amazon Web Services runs an annual series of "Security Week" events in San Francisco, New York, and various other places around the world. The events are targeted at the startup community, but big names often are represented as well. Over the course of several years, I presented, led workshops, and performed live demos for crowds up to 150 people.

(ISC)² Security Events

When I lived in Austin, I was extremely active in the (ISC)² community. I gave talks at a number of their larger events focused on secure software development. I also was a founding member of the local (ISC)² chapter and frequently spoke and gave demos at member events.
